HAKKAISAN VERTICAL 2026
Also known as: Hakkaisan Vertical · Hakkaisan Mountain Race
An uphill-only vertical race of 3.8 km and +800 m up the Muikamachi Hakkaisan ski resort in Minamiuonuma, Niigata. It revives the Hakkaisan mountain marathon held in 2004-2013 and debuts in 2026, organised by Echigo Sky Club as the JSA national VERTICAL championship. The finish is near the ropeway summit station and runners descend on their own.
The course tops out at 1,141 m (low point 384 m). The main climb comes right from the start: 757 m around 0–4 km. About 50% of the distance is gentle (under 5% grade).
