Shimosuwa Onbashira Kaido Trail 2026
Also known as: SHIMOSUWA ONBASHIRA KAIDO Trail
The 43 km long course of the Shimosuwa Onbashira Kaido Trail starts and finishes near the Shimosha Akimiya shrine of Suwa Taisha in Shimosuwa, Nagano. It follows the Onbashira log-hauling route and the old Nakasendo up to the Yashimagahara wetland and Mt. Washigamine on Kirigamine, with views over Lake Suwa, about 2,300 m of gain and three aid stations. The wetland boardwalk is a walking-only section.
The course tops out at 1,882 m (low point 772 m). There are 2 big climbs: 1,035 m around 0–14 km; 371 m around 16–19 km. Only about 30% is gentle (under 5% grade); most of it is climbing or descending.
