The 36 km category of Utsunomiya Trail Run starts and finishes at Utsunomiya Forest Park in Tochigi and loops through the prefectural natural park around Mt. Kogashi. Steep climbs, rocky sections and varied trail make it the advanced course; runners pass the aid station near race HQ three times. Finishers receive the city's famous gyoza. Held since 2010 by the Utsunomiya Trail Run committee.
The course tops out at 565 m (low point 216 m). There are 3 big climbs: 300 m around 0–4 km; 349 m around 8–14 km; 349 m around 23–29 km. Only about 30% is gentle (under 5% grade); most of it is climbing or descending.
